When it comes to durability, aluminum is usually the preferred material because it’s both tough and light. The Dell XPS 13 uses aluminum to reinforce the top part of the lid, but the real secret is in the housing material on which the lid sits on – carbon fiber. In fact, the Dell XPS 13 uses the premium material liberally throughout the notebook – seen clearly on the bottom of the machine – which makes the Dell XPS 13 feel tougher and also lither than other machines. That’s because it’s also smaller in size, thanks to Dell squeezing a 13-inch screen into a chassis meant for notebooks with 11-inch screens. Other little touches throughout the machine, like a rubber coated palm rest and a Teflon coated clickable touchpad makes the Dell XPS 13 a pleasure to use of a daily basis.
